A combination of the Army and police
personnel have quelled a clash between
the supporters of the All Progressive
Grand Alliance (APGA) and the People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) in Umuahia, the
Abia State capital.
Hundreds of supporters of both parties
stormed the vicinity of the head office of
the Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) in anticipation of the
outcome of the final results and
announcement of the winner of the
governorship election.
Reports say the clash, which was
believed to have been caused by
arguments from both camps, was
contained by security agencies deployed
to the INEC office.
Two people sustained gunshot injuries,
while 4 cars were damaged in the
process.
Despite the early intervention, there are
fears of possible violence in the
aftermath of the announcement of the
final outcome of the election.
