Champions League S’Final: Juve Get Madrid, Barca Tackle Bayern

The Champions League semi-final held in
Nyon, Switzerland, yesterday, Friday, has
produced a scintillating draw, pitting four
of the world’s best teams against
themselves.
La Liga giants FC Barcelona will meet
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
The game will see Pep Guardiola come
up against the enigma he worked with
while in Barcelona – Lionel Messi – and
some members of his former squad when
both sides file out at the Camp Nou for
the first leg on May 6.
Defending champions Real Madrid will
take on 1996 winners Juventus in the
other semi-final fixture on May 5, in
Torino, in a game many football analysts
consider a ‘walk-over’ for the Madrid-
based team.
Both sides avoided each other at this
stage after Los Blancos thrashed the
Germans 5-0 on aggregate in last
season’s semi-final.
Barcelona, meanwhile, didn’t feature
among the top-four last season, while
Juventus last reached this stage in
2002/03 when they eliminated Real.
The return legs are scheduled for 12/13
May, while the final will take place on
June 6 in Berlin.
Meanwhile, Sevilla will continue the
defence of its Europa League crown
against ACF Fiorentina, while Rafael
Benitez’s Napoli will take on semi-final
newcomers, Dnipropetrovsk FC. Though
Sevilla has played Fiorentina a number of
times, it has never met either Dnipro or
Napoli.
The winners of both games will meet at
the National Stadium Warsaw, Poland, on
Wednesday, May 27.
