in Ethiope-East Local Government Area
of Delta State where used to be a refuge
for suspected armed robbers, fresh
indications are that robbers have devised
a new strategy of robbing, and even
raping, people the university town,
Abraka.
In the wake of the upsurge the robbers
now dress in female dresses, armed with
AK 47s to way lay motorist including
traders during night fall.
Only last Saturday, the robbers during a
sporadic shoot out, allegedly killed three
traders at the community’s popular
market place during market hours.
Sources said their new modus operandi
has driven residents into great fear of
the unknown as they at present, sleep
with one eye open.
The demolished hotel (name withheld)
was said to have been used by hoodlums
to hold victims hostage until ransoms are
paid to them before the victims are let
off the hooks.
In the last two weeks, sources said it has
unprecedented raping of married women
by those prowling armed robbers who
disguised in female dresses to swop on
the unsuspecting house wives for alleged
rape.
But the police public relations officer in
the state, DSP Celestina Kalu, who
confirmed the new crime waves,
disclosed that two robbery suspects were
arrested on Sunday in the area, adding
that two women were also rescued in the
hands of suspected rapist during
operation.
DSP Kalu said that the police were
determined to bring to book, the robbers
behind the current activities in the
community.
