Ibadan: Police Van Kills 68 Year Old Woman

A police patrol pick -up van carrying three
policemen in mufti killed a 68 -year - old woman ,
identified as Nusirat Durosaro at Orita - Merin,
while waiting for a bus to convey her to Olodo,
an outskirts of Ibadan to pay for her hajj trip this
year .
In company of her daughter, Saudat Salawu , the
deceased was said to have been hit by the
police vehicle while waiting at the bus stop
following which a protest was made to Mapo
police station.
The 46 -year - old daughter of the deceased , who
also sustained injuries was in tears as she was
accompanied by other members of her family to
narrate to journalists how she was going with
her mummy to finalize preparation for her ( the
deceased ) pilgrimage to Mecca this year .
According to her , “ this morning ( Monday ) , we
were standing at a bus stop at Oritamerin
waiting for a bus to Olodo when I heard a loud
bang and I fell down on top of my mother. It was
then I looked back to see what actually
happened.
“ I saw a white police van that knocked my
mother and me . My mother was bleeding from
her nose, eyes and ears . She was unconscious . I
was shouting saying you policemen have killed
my mum .
“ See what you have done. God will request her
blood from you. The police then picked us up
and took us to Adeoyo State Hospital , Yemetu ,
where the doctor attended to her and
administered drips on her .
“ She was then ? transferred to the University of
Ibadan where she was rejected probably
because of her precarious situation. But , to my
surprise, the policemen started threatening me
that what effrontery did I have to accuse the
police of the Federal Republic of Nigeria of
killing your mum ” , she narrated further ?
Tearfully , she said the policemen then asked her
to give them her house address and phone
number quoting the policemen as saying that
they would come after her after her mother
would have regained her consciousness unknown
to them that the woman would eventually give
up the ghost .
Pleading with the journalists to help fight her
cause, she disclosed that the police abandoned
her and her mother at the Adeoyo hospital and
they claimed that it was a motorcycle that hit
the deceased .
“ They were saying how possible it was for
somebody ( me ) who was knocked down by a
vehicle to see whether it was policemen that hit
us . In annoyance , they dropped my mother and
me before we got to the UCH and ran away .
“ Even though, I was bleeding on my knee, I
rushed my mother to Ibadan Central Hospital
where the doctor confirmed that she was dead .
“ Please , Nigerians help me and deliver me from
these power - drunk policemen who , having killed
my mother, still have the guts to threaten me.
What type of country is this , this is very unfair ” ,
she lamented .
Reacting to the incident, the state Police Public
Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu said he
was yet to be briefed about the incident and
promised to call our reporter back after he might
have received the official report, but , the official
failed to do that as at press time.
