Chadian Soldiers Kill 200 Boko Haram Militants

than 200 Boko Haram militants were killed
in a battle against Chad's military the town
of Gamboru on the border of Cameroon
and Nigeria.
Nine Chadian soldiers were killed and 21
were wounded . Boko Haram killed about
30 people as it fled the battle into
Cameroon, which is battling the militants
within its borders.
Chadian jet fighters bombed parts of the
town before its troops entered.
The Chadian military said the death toll
could rise as the clean-up of the town
begins. The town is mostly deserted.
The African Union recently agreed to
deploy troops to battle Boko Haram. Chad
and Nigeria have been carrying out
bombings in the Sambisa forest where the
Islamic militants have bases.
Boko Haram was designated as a foreign
terrorist organization by the U.S. State
Department in 2013. The militant Islamic
group seeks to establish an Islamic state in
Nigeria and has ruthlessly targeted
civilians. A state of emergency has been
declared since May 2013 in the
northeastern areas of Nigeria where Boko
Haram operates.
