The presidential candidate of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), Maj. General
Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), and his campaign
train will storm Akwa Ibom State on Tuesday.
Already, leaders of the Yoruba community in
the state, members of University of Lagos
Alumni Association, Nigerian Bar Association
and members of the Redeemed Christian
Church of God as well as members of the
Hausa community, retired military men,
youths and women leaders have met over the
visit.
During the visit, Buhari will hold his
presidential rally at the Uyo Township
Stadium, and present the party’s flag to the
governorship standard-bearer of the party in
the state, Obong Umana Okon Umana.
The state Chairman of the APC, Dr. Amadu
Attai and the Secretary, Efiong Etok,
confirmed this in a statement jointly issued
in Uyo and hinted that the presidential rally
of the party would be attended by APC elders,
chieftains and supporters across the country.
The Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi,
who doubles as the Director General of the
Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation
and the National Chairman of the party, Chief
John Odigie Oyegun, are among top party
elders expected at the rally.
Meanwhile, Buhari/Osinbajo solidarity group
has identified with the call and aspiration of
Nigerians for a positive change in the
political leadership of the country as well as
that of Akwa Ibom State.
Rising from a meeting held in Uyo, the Akwa
Ibom State capital, weekend, the group called
for synergy to enhance the enthronement of a
people-oriented government come May 29,
2015. The convener of the meeting, Mr. Joe
Ukpong, said the essence of the meeting was
to brainstorm on how to mobilise massive
support for the presidential candidate of the
APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) and his
running mate Prof. Yomi Osinbajo, SAN.
Ukpong who is a former Commissioner in
Akwa Ibom State, said the combination of
Buhari, an experienced Army General and
former Head of State for President and Prof.
Osinbajo, a renowned Senior Advocate of
Nigeria as Vice President, was a perfect pair.
Also as a former federal board member,
Ukpong argued that with the duo at the helm
of affairs in the country, their victory in 2015
would bring positive change to Nigeria.
“In 2015, we are going to have two competent
professionals steering the affairs of the
country. While one is an accomplished Army
General with experience as a former Head of
State, the other is a renowned Senior
Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
“So it is a perfect pair. I want to call on all
Nigerians to give the APC, the necessary
support in order to bring positive change to
Nigeria.”
Ukpong, a one-time senatorial candidate of
the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria
(ACN), also stressed the need for support in
the actualisation of the gubernatorial
ambition of the APC in the state, saying that
a vote for Umana as governor of the state is
a vote for progress and development.
