150,000 PDP Members Threaten to Quit Party in Ogun State

A political group under the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, ‘The
Imole Group’ has threatened its state chapter
as well as the National Working Committee
(NWC) of the party to pull out of PDP over
the issues of agreed slots to the group.
The group, in a statement issued in Abeokuta,
stated that ‘The Imole Group’ and its over
150,000 members throughout the state left
the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to
the high-handedness of the incumbent
governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and his
failure to recognise the party organ in the
state upon his emergence.
It stated that sequel to the exodus of its
members into PDP, an agreement was
reached with the party whereby the group
was promised one senatorial slot, three
House of Representatives’ slots, and eight
House of Assembly slots, predicated on a
60/40 per cent agreement.
According to the group “this was the basis
upon which the group came into PDP and to
our utter dismay this agreement was not
honoured by the party in the scheme of
things, as when the time came to honour the
party reneged. This depicts an attendant
height of deceit unprecedented in our sojourn
politically as a group and as such we may be
necessitated to deal with any other political
party willing to show sincerity to our course
as a group.”
The group, therefore, noted that “this is
inimical to the growth of the party and all
these atrocious deeds are an open secret in
Ogun state.”
Its added: “Hence if all effort to correct this
situation should fail at the top echelon of the
PDP we may be left with no choice than to
move out with all our over 150, 000
registered members to a more peaceful and
secured political party once negotiation is
concluded and be assured in clear terms that
PDP has lost out in Ogun State.”
It urged the leadership of the party at the top
echelon to ensure an expedient amicable
resolution of the political imbroglio to avert
a mass exodus of people from the party.
