1 Dies,, 11 others Injured As APC Campaign Bus Gets Involved in Ghastly Auto crash

The campaign train of the Edo State
chapter of the All Progressives
Congress ( APC) , while on a trip to
Okada , Ovia North East Local
Government Area of the state on
Saturday, was involved in a ghastly
motor accident along the Benin-Lagos
road , leading to the death one
party member, with 11 others seriously
injured.
According to reports, the 18 -seater bus
in which the contingent was travelling
had a head -on collusion with a car that
had the posters of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP ) House of
Representatives candidate for Ovia
Federal Constituency , daughter of the
Esama of Benin, Miss Omosede
Igbinedion.
One of the APC members died on the
spot while 11 others were taken to the
hospital . Governor Adams Oshiomhole
who was about leaving his Iyamho
village for the venue of the APC rally
when he heard the news , immediately
ordered for the cancellation of the
campaign rally in honour of the victims .
Deputy Governor of the state , Pius
Odubu , and the former Minister of State
for Works , Chris Ogienwonyi , described
the incident as shocking and painful.
“ It is a very sad moment for us , losing
one of our members and 11 others are
in the hospital .
We were supposed to have rallies at
Egor and Ovia but when this incident
happened the Comrade Governor called
that the rallies be cancelled in honour
of the victims.
“ We are praying for others who are still
in the hospital receiving treatment . For
now , we have suspended our
campaigns ,” Odubu said .
Ogienwonyi , in his reaction , said: “ It is
quite a sad moment for the party and
for all of us. Nobody anticipated this as
we all woke up this morning ready for
the campaigns and it was devastating
when we heard this news . Some of us
were still on our way to the venue when
we were informed that the Comrade
Governor ordered for the cancellation of
the rally in honour of the victims .
“ That was a good decision and he is a
governor that cares about his people
and we know that he must be
devastated right now . But as humans,
there is nothing we can do than to pray
to Almighty God to receive the soul of
the deceased, and quick recovery for
those still at the hospital . ”
