Former Governor of Rivers
State, Dr. Peter Odili, has said
he regrets supporting Rivers
State Governor Rotimi Amaechi
in the course of his political
career to become governor of
Rivers State in 2007.
Odili spoke for the first time on
his estranged relationship with
his godson (Amaechi) in
Andoni at the weekend during
campaign tour of the
immediate past Minister of
State for Education and
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,
candidate, Nyesom Wike, for
the 2015 gubernatorial
election.
He stated that Amaechi on
becoming governor dismantle
all enduring structures the
founding fathers of the PDP
had built with great care and
vision.
According to Odili, “we thought
we did the right thing by
supporting Amaechi to become
governor of the state. We left a
united state. We also left a
united party. PDP was one.
“Rivers State is PDP. There was
no other party in Rivers State
other than the PDP. Whatever
the party hierarchy said will
happen happened. The
secretary is here to support
what I am telling you here
today.
“With all the best intentions we
supported his political career
and ambition. We thought we
did what was best for the
state. As you know, until a
man has power and money you
don’t really know him, but that
is a story for the future.
“One thing is clear, we have
accepted our mistake and we
are determined to correct it in
2015,” the former governor
said.
He commended Wike for
rescuing and reuniting the
party after Governor Amaechi
defected to the APC, along with
former state chairman of PDP,
Chief Godspower Ake, his
commissioners, supporters and
all except one of the 23 local
government chairmen elected
under the PDP together with all
23 local government chairmen
of the party in the state.
Also speaking, state chairman
of PDP, Felix Obuah, enjoined
members not to be afraid to
fully participate in the 2015
general elections.
“Don’t be frightened. Come out
during the election to vote for
our candidates. It is PDP for
president; PDP for governor;
PDP for Senate, House of
Representatives and House of
Assembly,” Obuah said.
