The call followed the plea on Sunday at a
church service in Abuja by Jonathan to
Nigerians to be prepared to bear with the
hardship to be experienced in the country as a
result of the continuous drop in oil prices.
Muslims Rights Concern, MURIC, in a reply to
the President’s call, asked him to lead the way
in the sacrifice to reduce the expected burden
on Nigerians if indeed he was a patriotic
leader.
Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola,
said that while the call by Jonathan was in
order, Nigerians were looking forward to a
practical demonstration of what the president
expects Nigerians to exhibit and not mere
admonition while doing the opposite.
The Muslim group regretted that the President
was not leading Nigerians by example going
by the way and manner he and his
administration had carried on since coming on
board.
MURIC said “Mr. President is not leading us
by example if it is true that he still wants to
buy a new aircraft. The presidency has
explanations to render to tax-payers if it is
also true that the proposed aircraft will be the
fourth since he took office in the year 2010.
Why must President Jonathan buy four
aircrafts in four years? Is the president
walking his talk?
“The presidency also owes Nigerians
explanations if it is true that friends and
associates donated staggering sums of money
amounting to millions at the launching of Mr.
President’s campaign fund for the 2015
elections which netted N21 billion.”
