Bodies, Debris of Missing AirAsia Jet Found

Two days after the AirAsia flight QZ8501was
declared missing, the bodies and debris of
the ill-fated flight were seen floating on the
sea.
According to Associated Press, the bodies of
several victims have been recovered from the
missing AirAsia flight, the Indonesian Navy
said. Objects resembling parts of the plane,
as well as what was thought to be the
plane’s outline underwater, were seen in the
search area.
“There was a man swaying on the waves.
After I looked at the photo carefully on my
laptop, I understood it was a human body,” a
lieutenant of the Indonesian Air Force told
local media.
The bodies so far found have been brought to
an Indonesian Navy ship, National Search
and Rescue Director Supriyadi disclosed. The
corpses were swollen, but intact, and did not
have life jackets on, he said, as cited by AP.
Several family members of missing
passengers burst into tears or fainted when
they saw footage of bodies floating in the
water
These came after objects that resemble an
emergency slide, plane door, and a square
box-like item have been spotted 10km from
the last position of the missing AirAsia jet,
according to Indonesian authorities.
Reuters reported that red and white debris
spotted off the coast of Indonesia's part of
Borneo island is likely to be part of AirAsia
flight QZ8501, an Indonesian transport
official said on Tuesday.
Media quoted an air force official as saying a
suspected body, luggage and a life vest were
among the debris.
"As we approached, the body seemed
bloated," said First Lieutenant Tri Wibowo,
who was on board a Hercules during the
search operation, was quoted by the
Kompas.com website as saying.
The sighting of the body was not confirmed.
"The debris is red and white," Djoko
Murjatmodjo, acting director general of air
transportation at the transport ministry, told
reporters. "We are checking if it's debris from
the aircraft. It's probably from the body of
the aircraft."
Based on the size and appearance of the
debris, it was likely to be part of the missing
jet, Murjatmodjo added.
There have been no confirmed sightings of
any wreckage of the missing plane. Most of
those on board were Indonesian.
Indonesia's Kompas TV showed pictures of
what looked like large, angular objects
floating in the sea. The largest appeared to
be several metres long.
