20 injured as Lagos Area Boys clash over Fuji musician ’s cash gift

No fewer than 20 people were seriously
injured and several vehicles vandalised
in a renewed clash between social
miscreants known as Area Boys in Ali-
Iwo area and counterparts from
Oriyanrin , all in Ijora- Badia in Lagos at
weekend over cash gift by a Fuji
musician .
Also , bandits took advantage of the
clash to rob residents, market men and
women and passers -by of their personal
belongings like mobile phones, cash
among others.
Several people who were injured in the
by the miscreants were taken to nearby
private hospitals for urgent medical
attention .
It was reliably gathered that the two
gangs attended the stage performance
of one Remi Aluko Fuji band at Bobland
Hotel, Ijora , where a free -for -all ensued
when one group collected money from
the musician and refused to give the
other its share.
Eye witnesses recounted that the
gangsters freely used dangerous
weapons like guns , cutlasses, broken
bottles and knives to attack each other,
while innocent people who were caught
unaware by the crisis, were injured and
robbed.
“ Over 20 innocent people sustained
injuries during the bloody clash; many
were robbed and several vehicles were
vandalised at Obale Street and other
adjacent streets by the boys , who had a
free day before the police later came to
disperse them with teargas, ” a source
said .

Three of the vandalised vehicles had
registration numbers XV 607AGL,
AGL 816XE, CH 260LSD.
The source also hinted that the Ali -Iwo
notorious boys always assemble at the
edge of Obale bridge most of the time ,
smoking Indian hemp and attacking
passers -by any time they like.
One of the owners on the vandalised
vehicles , who had reported the incident
at Divisional Police Station, Badia,
however , called on the police
authorities and the state government to
arrest the culprits and bring them to
book as soon as possible .
Some residents who spoke with our
correspondent were not happy with the
way police had been handling the
issues concerning the notorious boys
as they alleged that they dare not go to
the station to report any of the gangs
as they allegedly have an
understanding with the police .
He added : “We are appealing to the
Commissioner of Police and Governor
Babatunde Fashola to assist in getting
rid of the miscreants ”.
All efforts to speak with the DPO of the
Badia station proved abortive , as he
was not available at the station.
However , Kenneth Nwosu , Lagos police
image -maker said the police was on top
of the situations .
