The Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission(EFCC) yesterday raised the
alarm over increasing rate of cyber-
crime in Nigeria, advising people to be
wary of the menace.
Head of Operation of the commission in
the South East Zone, Mr David
Iloyanome raised the alarm yesterday
during a media chat with journalists on
the activities of the commission last
year.
Mr Iloyanome advised people to be wary
of unsolicited mails, adding that
opening unsolicited mails could reveal
vital information to criminals.
He further disclosed that cyber-crime
was fast overtaking conventional crimes
like kidnapping, armed robbery, among
others, assuring that the commission
was fully committed to fighting the ugly
development.
While commending the commission for
doing well in the past three years, he
disclosed that the EFCC recorded 10
convictions in the zone last year, adding
that some cases were still pending in
the court.
He, however, assured that people could
avoid cyber-crime if they are well
educated by the media and advised the
media to enlighten people.
